The Little Mekong neighborhood is located between Mackubin Street and Marion Street on University Avenue West and is home to a collection of Southeast Asian restaurants, shops and markets. The diverse landscape was established in the 1970s when Hmong people fled their home regions in sought of refuge in Saint Paul. The name of the neighborhood is inspired by all of the countries that border the Mekong River in Southeast Asia such as Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
