Fitzgerald Theater

Built in 1910, this theater—named after Saint Paul’s own F. Scott Fitzgerald—is the oldest theater space in the city. In its early days, the space was known as a movie house that screened foreign films. Minnesota’s only Black professional theatre company has been a cultivating space to nurture Black artists, promote racial equity, and inspire creative resiliency. Working to carry out this mission and build onto the theatre’s rich history in the Rondo community, the organization is evolving into the Penumbra Center for Racial Healing—offering new artistic offerings, equity training services and a wellness center.
