Free Archaeology Lab Tours: Uncovering Local Histories Through Archaeology
September 19, 2026 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Overview
Archaeology is about more than uncovering artifacts. It's about connecting those cultural and historical objects to the lived experiences of the real people who once held them. Join 106 Group for an immersive, hands-on program, exploring how archaeologists use material evidence to understand the past, connecting people, place, and time.
Through both interactive learning stations and guided tours of their labs, participants will examine modern and historical objects, participate in a simulated excavation, and explore how archaeologists interpret evidence to expand our knowledge of the past.
The program will highlight real discoveries from a recently excavated urban archaeological site in the Twin Cities, demonstrating how archaeological research can help tell the stories of communities whose histories may be underrepresented in traditional written records.
Two session times will be offered for Saturday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 26, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
