St. Paul Hosts ARSC’s 58th Annual Conference and Workshop
Eugene, Oregon – April 20, 2024
The Association for Recorded Sound Collections, a national association of professionals and enthusiasts, is pleased to announce that registration is now open for ARSC's 58th Annual Conference and Workshop, May 15-18, 2024 in St. Paul, Minnesota at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel St. Paul Downtown. The public is welcome.
The ARSC Conference begins with an opening reception on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 7 PM and continues Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18 with presentations and panel discussions with sound recording scholars, collectors, preservationists, and creators engaged in a broad range of topics that cross geographic, cultural, and collection boundaries. Evening programming includes two hosted sessions, Ask the Technical Committee and Collector’s Roundtable, as well as a screening titled Music on Film, that features rare clips of artists and repertoire from the silver screen. Minnesota Public Radio will host a tour and reception for conference registrants on Friday, May 17. The conference concludes with a closing banquet and awards ceremony on Saturday, May 18 at 7 PM.
The ARSC Workshop "Early and Obsolete Digital Formats" is on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 and will look at early and obsolete digital formats with history, details, and playback tips from renowned experts including Eddie Ciletti (Manhattan Sound Technicians, Inc.), Dan Johnson (Audio Archiving Services), George Blood (George Blood Audio), Jason Bitner (How's That Sound), Nadja Wallaszkovits (Professor of Audio/Visual Preservation, Stuttgart, Germany), Gary Galo (Audio Engineer Emeritus, SUNY Potsdam), Jeff Willens (New York Public Library), and Brad McCoy (moderator). Do you have R-DAT, MiniDisc, Sony PCM-F1, Sony PCM-1610/1630, DTRS / Tascam DA-88, ADAT, DASH, ProDigi, or Genex MO disks in your collection? Join us to learn how to identify, assess, conserve, and play these critically at-risk formats. Separate registration is required. The workshop is sponsored by the ARSC Technical Committee, and will be moderated by committee co-chairs Jeff Willens (NYPL), and Brad McCoy.
