Van Orman & Helwin in Concert
July 19, 2025 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Overview
With special guests Todd Menton, Drew Miller, and Mark Black
Van Orman and Helwin play songs of love and loss, from the devout to the degenerate, with inspired vocal harmonies accompanied by an array of instruments including Viennese guitar, gourd banjo, fiddle, hurdy-gurdy, harmonium, concertina, harmonica, and jaw harp.
John C. Van Orman and Adam Helwin are singer-songwriter neighbors in the bucolic countryside of southwestern Wisconsin’s Driftless region, a place of unglaciated hills, fertile soil, and clear-running trout streams where they craft poetic songs to sing alongside traditional folk tunes and selectively curated covers.
The duo will be joined by Todd Menton (Boiled in Lead), Drew Miller (Boiled in Lead, Kinda Fonda Wanda), and Mark Black (Other Country Ensemble) for this event.
Van Orman’s regional mark is made clear by the Minnesota artists who have covered his songs over the years; Boiled in Lead, Bill Hinkley and Judy Larson, Sherry Minnick, and The Flash Girls are a diverse lot whose recorded performances of his songs reflect the breadth of Van Orman’s appeal.
