Overview
A multimedia tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
As one of the performers from the Ordway's inaugural concert series in 1985, Sounds of Blackness once again graces the Ordway stage as a part of our 40th Anniversary Season!
This Grammy Award®-winning, Twin Cities-based group has performed a range of musical genres for kings, queens, presidents, and ambassadors all over the world. This February, hear them perform a fresh show of stylized arrangements of the music that fueled the Civil Rights Movement along with poignant narration and audio-visual elements interwoven into excerpts from the great speeches of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. In a moving tribute that honors the past while looking towards the future, both onstage and off, enjoy a night of jazz, blues, spirituals, rock & roll, R&B, gospel, hip hop, and soul— the Sounds of Blackness!
