Overview
Once
The award-winning Irish quintet Goitse has spent the past 15 years building a distinctive voice within contemporary Irish traditional music. Formed at Limerick’s Irish World Academy, the band balances newly written material with deeply rooted traditional tunes, shaped by years of touring and close collaboration.
The rhythmic foundation of Colm Phelan and Conal O’Kane gives the music its forward motion, while County Louth singer Áine McGeeney brings a direct, expressive approach to song. All-Ireland Champion Danny Collins contributes a rhythmically focused style on piano accordion, alongside Alan Reid on banjo and bouzouki, whose engagement with archival sources informs the group’s repertoire.
Goitse is known for live performances that are focused, generous, and finely paced – concerts built on strong ensemble playing and a clear connection to the music’s sources, without losing a sense of openness and ease with the audience.
