Overview
Victorian Love Lives: A History of Love, Courtship, and Marriage is a free virtual event presented jointly by the Alexander Ramsey House and James J. Hill House of the Minnesota Historical Society.
How did people in the Victorian era meet that special someone? How did lovesick ladies and gentlemen woo their beau or sweetheart? What was Victorian courtship like and how did it evolve into today's "dating"? Find out all this and more!
We'll share stories from the Ramsey and Hill families and their domestic servants, shedding light on the complex world of Victorian romance, sex, and marriage. From calling cards to “basket socials,” early personal ads to "Vinegar Valentines," we'll uncover the fascinating love lives of yesteryear.
This program will contain some adult content and is recommended for mature audiences.
