The Adam Wolff Jazz Trio
November 1, 2024 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Overview
Adam Wolff has been playing the piano most of his life. He grew up in New York and Chicago, and has been
living in California for the last 30 years.
While in New York, Wolff studied extensively with Barry Harris, Mike Longo (Musical Director for Dizzy
Gillespie) and Kenny Werner (Author of Effortless Mastery and a global music legend). He also performed and
recorded with many great jazz players including Victor Lewis, Calvin Hill, Rebecca Franks, and others. He was
especially fortunate to record with two of Ahmad Jamal’s drummers: Vernel Fournier (credited with the iconic
drumbeat used in Jamal’s recording of “Poinciana” in the 1950’s) and Frank Gant, who was part of the great
“Awakenings” album.
Adam Wolff’s music has excitement and swinging, soulful, creative musical expression. His groups rely on a
high degree of listening and creativity, making for unique arrangements of their music each performance.
Wolff played at the Metronome Brewery in the spring of 2023 to a packed house. He is looking forward to a
return engagement, and is bringing two of the Twin City’s finest musicians for this year’s event: Tom Lewis on
bass and Reid Kennedy on drums.
"I've listened to Adam many times over the years in San Diego. Having obviously listened to the jazz piano masters, his
playing easily bridges the many of styles of jazz, funk and blues. His easy-going, affable personality comes through in
his music." --Mike Wofford, accompanist for Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
