Come to Historic Fort Snelling's newly opened visitor center to view a model of the military post as it looked at its peak in 1944 before highways divided the area, and hear one of our staff talk about the changes over the years.
Fort Snelling grew from its original 1820s fortification, multiplying its size many times over until it reached past where the airport is today. By WWII the fort was serving to process soldiers in the Midwest from Arkansas to Minnesota and North Dakota to Kansas.
See other displays including a cavalry saddle exhibit, shop in the museum store, and stop in the grab-and-go where snacks and sandwiches are available for purchase.
Program free with regular admission. Space is limited, please RSVP by calling 651-369-7204 or emailing ftsnelling@mnhs.org.
