100 years after Irvine Park’s dedication, the surrounding community housing was deemed substandard while the park was a frequent stop for drifters. In 1973 public acquisition for urban renewal of the land was finalized, ultimately leading to the acknowledgement of the park’s historical significance. The site underwent drastic redevelopment five years later when a $40,000 fountain commemorating the original was installed and the park was dedicated in the presence of the original donor’s family. Amenities include a beautiful, flowing fountain, a gazebo, ample seating space at benches and picnic tables, and amazing views of Saint Paul’s historic Victorian style homes.
