Welcome Winter: Guide to Grand Opening of Rice Park Powered by Xcel Energy

Kick-off the holiday season at the Nov. 23 Grand Opening of Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy.


Everyone and anyone—all ages are welcome. This is a great event to invite your neighbors, friends and family to attend.


The Grand Opening of Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy—the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season in Minnesota’s capital city. Attendees of this free event will witness downtown Saint Paul come to life with all the magic of the season as the holiday tree is lit. The event will also feature music, photo opportunities, fireworks, hot cider complements of Xcel Energy, a chance to win advanced screening passes to JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL, as well as tickets to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Dec. 28 performance at Xcel Energy Center.


Saturday, November 23: 4 p.m.-7 p.m.


4-4:45 p.m.: Minnesota Dance Collaborative on the Rice Park Stage
5-5:45 p.m.: Teddy Bear Band on the Rice Park Stage
5:50-6:30 p.m.: Opening ceremonies and speeches, including the Winter Carnival Royal Family, Saint Paul Police Band Drumline, Mayor Melvin Carter, Xcel Energy's John Marshall, Masonic Children's Hospital and a performance of The Christmas Song by "It's a Wonderful Life"'s live radio performers. The event will be emceed by Wren Clair (Meteorologist 5 Eyewitness News and 45TV), as well as Staci and Hutch from KS95.
6:30 p.m.: Holiday tree lighting and fireworks show
