The hospital opened in 1857 and is the largest hospital in the Twin Cities east metro area, is a non-profit hospital providing a full range of health care services to more than 200,000 people each year. Serving as Minnesota's children’s hospital since 1924, we are the seventh-largest children’s health care organization in the U.S., with 332 staffed beds at our two hospital campuses in St. Paul and Minneapolis. An independent, not-for-profit health care system, Children’s provides care through over 14,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits each year.
Awards Won
• Innovation of the Year in Patient Care award-Children’s of Minnesota received this award for its breakthrough nitrous oxide sedation program. Children’s is the first hospital in the United States to have specially trained registered nurses, under the direction of a physician, administer nitrous oxide to children for sedation.
• Health Care Career Promotion award- Children’s received this award for a combination of accessible volunteer programs that encourage students and career-changers to enter health care.
• LifeSource Hospital Partner award: Children’s received this award from LifeSource in recognition of the fact that more than 75 percent of eligible patient families at Children’s – St. Paul consented to donate their child’s organs or tissue.
