Como Park Conservatory
Step into the sunny Victorian Conservatory’s Palm Room. Como Zoo features the only great apes and giraffes in Minnesota, plus many intriguing exhibits. It is open daily and is just a ten-minute drive north of downtown.
Minnesota State Capitol
Built by Cass Gilbert, this capitol is consistently named as one of the most beautiful capitol buildings in America and features the country’s largest unsupported dome. Free tours are offered daily.
The Cathedral of Saint Paul
Driving down John Ireland Boulevard, the Cathedral sits majestically on the highest of Saint Paul’s five hills. Modeled after Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and dedicated as a monument to the people of Saint Paul, the church welcomes visitors to walk inside and see the magnificent architecture or arrange for a group tour.
James J. Hill House
Railroad baron James J. Hill built this impressive “jewel on the hill” in 1891, at a cost of nearly $1 million for this 36,000 square foot mansion. Tours are available.
Summit Avenue
Begin at the Cathedral to view the 400 homes and almost five miles of iron gates, stained glass and stone facades. Four colleges, and several ornate churches also line America’s longest span of intact Victorian homes. Don’t forget to continue all the way down Summit Avenue to reach the Mississippi River.
Grand Avenue
This residential neighborhood of shopping and eating establishments is one block south of Summit Avenue. The central intersection for this area is Victoria Street and Grand Avenue. Walk and explore unique shops, ethnic restaurants, pubs and coffeehouses.
Alexander Ramsey House
Be a guest at the Ramsey home which still has the furnishings, linens, dishes, carpets, and clothing that belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey. Built in 1872, this mansion contains one of the most complete collections of its type in the country. Tours are available.
Irvine Park
Drive or walk around Irvine Park and view the restored homes of the period. The square has been reconstructed to its original appearance of the 1870s.

While you’re touring Irvine Park, stop at Forepaugh’s for a great lunch or dinner.
